The second CMPA Congress, which had as its theme An Integrated Marine Community, was held in Vancouver from 21 to 25 April, 2008.
With pilots from the United States, Brazil, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Korea joining their Canadian colleagues at the Congress, the event had a truly international flavour. There was also strong representation from all sectors of the maritime community, including shipowners, port administrators, government officials and suppliers.
The recipient of the CMPA Award for Outstanding Contribution to Marine Safety was Capt. Frank Nicol. Capt. Nicol was recognized for his leadership on a number of important policy and safety issues, especially during his tenure as President of the Shipping Federation of Canada.
